Multiplication Activities
Check out the following multiplication activities.
It is always more engaging to learn skills while having fun. Here are some multiplication activities and tricks to help you build your multiplication skills.
Multiplying By 9 Finger Trick
One of my teachers taught me this trick and I thought it was so cool. This trick using your fingers works for 9 times tables. It can be used for 9 x 1 up to 9 x 10.
Every Minute Counts
Sometimes there just is not enough time in the day to get all of your tasks accomplished. Trying to find those extra few minutes to relax can be difficult. That’s why it is important to make every minute count. I remember as a child I would be waiting with my dad in the morning to drop me off at school. While we waited, he would ask me a few math questions. These few questions every day helped me solidify my basic math skills, such as multiplication. I became very good at mathematics and really enjoyed it. Obviously there were days I wanted to watch tv before school (and I did!), but I still remember those mornings spent learning math. It was only about 10 minutes a day, but the skills I gained early as a child helped me to succeed in mathematics and have a love for the subject. Try some verbal multiplication questions while you are in the car, or even a few quick questions before bedtime. Try to make a game out of it. When it comes down to it, multiplication is about memorizing the basic facts, and that just takes time and practice. Completely multiplication worksheets is great, but sometimes even a few verbal multiplication questions whenever you can “sneak” them in is a valuable trick to strengthening those skills.
Multiplication Activities in Everyday Life
Sometimes children need practical real life examples of mathematics. I took my niece to Walmart and had her take a few pictures of items for which she could turn into a multiplication fact. See the pictures and related facts below. This is a fun little “game” you can have your child do while you are shopping. Learning by discovering real life examples is a wonderful technique.
